How do braces work?
Specially designed
brackets are placed in a particular position on each tooth. Initially,
a very flexible wire is engaged in each bracket, which applies a
gentle, controlled force on the teeth. This pressure triggers a
series of biological changes, which allow the teeth to be moved
through the supporting bone to a more ideal position. Throughout
treatment, different size wires will be used and adjusted to improve
dental function and alignment. Additional components, such as rubber
bands or springs, can be used with the braces to achieve specific
directional movements.
